Samantha Fegurgur

Artist Statement: I love working with all mediums, but have taken a particular liking to charcoal. Charcoal provides flexibility by being able to build it up but also a sense of fear in knowing one wrong movement and you can take away something you've spent so much time building up. I tend to use my emotions and feelings to drive the pieces I make and try to embed those into my works somehow.

Bio: Sam has always had an interest in the Arts, from a young age she painted the walls of her parents rental house and her body with markers. She is currently working on her undergraduate degree and hopes to transfer to a 4 year university to pursue more art focused classes.

Bio: Sammy has been a life-long creative in many practices, now focusing on visual art.  She hopes to continue learning and creating meaningful works throughout her time at Clark, and WSU in the spring. For Sammy, art is a powerful tool to heal and grow your heart and aims to spread that sentiment to others.

Shannon Guo

Artist Statement: I was lucky to be introduced to printmaking this year. During the learning and making of these artworks, I gained many unexpected experiences. For example, various details correspond to different carving tools, or the thickness relationship between materials always affects the final printing effect. Sometimes I carved some tiny details with great care, expecting the print to be delicate. However, the material has taught me that mastering them takes time. I think understanding the properties of these materials is also an interesting learning process. So, when I finished these prints, I found that each one of them had its own story and feeling, rather than just an idea.

Bio: Shannon Guo loves almost everything to do with art, so she sometimes experimented with both known and unknown art. Sophisticated, fashionable, unpretentious, simple, and humorous art styles are the scope of her consideration. She hopes to keep some creative passion in her future study and work because this is one of the most enjoyable moments in her life.

Denise Ostlund

Artist Statement: In my art, I gravitate toward natural, organic shapes and colors. I am drawn to the sea, be it the shapes of sea life, the colors of the coastline, or silhouettes on the water. I prefer hand building ceramics and especially enjoy how clay can be manipulated with various techniques. Printmaking is new to me and can be tricky, so I really appreciate the reward of that "keeper" print.

Bio: Looking to revive her rusty artistic skills, Denise Ostlund, found herself back at the Frosts Art Center at Clark College after twenty years - a time when she had been shifting from design & graphic arts, to oil painting, and also ceramics. After waiting for ceramics to be in person, she embraced both ceramics and printmaking in the Winter quarter of this year and is hooked. She is looking forward to expanding upon those skills in future classes.

Amee Rika Indino

Artist Statement: I willingly use any materials I'm given, creating pieces from drawing, painting, sculpting, and digital art to soon, computer-modelled 3D work. I often spend time on my computer, so my primary media of choice is digital software such as Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint. I'm heavily inspired by internet and Asian culture; in particular, Japanese-style animation, "Anime", and often draw humans, animals, and landscapes pinned anywhere on the spectrum of realism and cartoon.

Bio: Amee is a Filipino artist, 17 years old, born in Chicago, Illinois, and currently residing in Vancouver, Washington. In her leisure, playing video games and watching shows are favorites. Despite being shut in some days, she appreciates the nature of the Northwest and loves to hike, swim, and spend time with loved ones.

Title of Piece: “Half-full”

Medium: Charcoal on paper

Size: 18" x 24"

Course: ART103, Drawing 1

Professor: Ray Cooper

Natasha Sayre

Artist Statement: I derive most of my concepts from what I'm currently dealing with in my life. I use my art work to heal and in hopes to let others know that they're not alone. A lot of the narratives behind my work are about my struggles with my femininity and self-image.

Bio: Tasha was born on the east coast and raised in the Pacific Northwest most of her life. She's been artistic and pulled to the arts ever since she can remember. Her first real taste of true art came when she picked up a camera and fell in love. However, she loves creating in many different art forms and pushing herself to become the artist she's always known she was meant to be.

Alexa Smith

Artist Statement: A lot of the art pieces I enjoy making the most is either by painting, or shown in my 3 submissions, black and white drawings. I grew in love with using charcoal and graphite pencils in my class projects and implementing black pen.

Bio: Alexa has had an interesting time here at Clark, she has struggled a lot. But although she has struggled, she has grown in her artistic experience and has met some professors that have really changed her life. She was very busy this past year, being on our Clark Basketball team, so that made things even harder. Despite it all, she is excited to graduate this spring and move on to get her bachelors.

Nia Stillman

Artist Statement: I enjoy mixing collage and painting. I like the look of mixed-media and the way texture can be used in a piece of artwork. I am inspired by the people around me as well as the simple things in life that are often overlooked.

Bio: Nia Stillman is a young female artist and art connoisseur. She enjoys being on the flipside of art, rather than the artist themselves sometime. She enjoys painting things that are not always talked about, and tries to portray emotion in her work.

Esmirna Zeledon

Artist Statement: I am a multi-media artist. I enjoy experimenting, but I also enjoy honing my ability to create in said material. I am currently getting to know my own art practice to understand the narratives that drive me as I only started drawing regularly recently. I do know that while I did not create art consistently for many years I went through dark periods in my life during those years.

Bio: Esmirna Zeledon is a multi-media artist currently residing in Washington. She has been drawing since a young age, but only recently began allowing herself the opportunity to explore, understand and practice her art with sincerity and love.
